1. Why should we conserve forests and wildlife?

Forest conservation is important for stability of our environment. Forest is a habitat for a large number of species. There exist a large number of food chain. Destruction of forest land lead to the extinction of  species and disturb the food chain. Forest plays a key role in water conservation.

2. Suggest some approaches towards the conservation of forests.

  • Not to allow the destruction of forests for making roads, dams and hotels etc.
  • Plant more trees.
  • Convert forests into national parks and sanctuaries.
  • Make use of local people in conserving forest.

1. Find out about the traditional systems of water harvesting/ management in your region.

Well recharging is one of the water harvesting method in which the water collected from the roof tops are directed to the wells.

2. Compare the above system with the probable systems in hilly/ mountainous areas or plains or plateau regions.

In plains, the water harvesting structures are crescent-shaped earthen embankments. Groundwater is also harvested with the help of borewells. In hilly regions, the system of canals used for water harvesting. 

3. Find out the source of water in your region/locality. Is water from this source available to all people living in that area?

Water sources in my region are well, ponds and rivers.
